What exactly do you do?

I am a Functional Nutritionist specializing in Neurochemical Nutrition. Specifically, I work with you to determine what is going on with your brain and your body, and then show you how to translate this into results in real time.

Essentially, I bring together nutrition and neuroscience in a way that is new, cool, and effective. You see – everything that you consume & experience (food, learning, relationships, exercise, work and home environment, etc.) impacts your body and brain. So where a traditional nutritionist might focus primarily on what you’re eating, my work begins a layer below this with your actual brain chemistry.

I know my hormones are ‘off’. Do you deal with hormones directly?

Although the work I do will certainly impact various hormone levels in your body, I don’t target hormones directly.

So do you tell me what to eat?

Good question. The short answer, no – not initially (what?!? a nutritionist that doesn’t ‘tell’ me what to eat?! ‘tis TRUE *grin*). And here’s why. 1st, telling you ‘what to eat’ never goes well. 2nd, although I am happy to work with you to create meal plans and determine what foods are a best fit for your body and lifestyle – usually, by the time you’ve found your way to me, you have a darn good idea of what you ‘should’ be eating. And yet you aren’t eating those foods, you’re eating them and you aren’t getting the results you want, and/OR you find you are making a lot of exceptions around food & drink (ex: ‘cheating’, snacking, etc.).

My job is to help you put in place what is missing FIRST, so that your body and your brain get what they need. Usually, specific food suggestions are secondary. Once you are ‘on track’– THEN I work with you to determine what are the best foods for your body and your lifestyle.

Who is a typical client for you?

I serve people like you. Smart. Interested. And likely puzzled.

You want to look amazing, feel GOOD in your body, and you want to function at the very top of your game.

You’ve done the work. You’ve read ‘the research’. And it’s quite likely you’ve tried nearly everything when it comes to food, exercise, ‘weight loss’, sleep support, energy support…. And either the things you ‘know’ aren’t working as effectively as you’d like, they have never really worked, OR you aren’t doing what you know to do.

What type of results can I expect?

Increased energy, improvements in focus and memory, a lift in your mood, freedom from the ‘grip’ of cravings, and relief from digestive issues (gas, bloating, heartburn, and so on).

Other common results reported – a sense of relief and hope about this whole ‘health’ thing, improved/recalibrated sleep, increased self-confidence, fat loss…the list goes on.

How long does it take to experience results?

What I have found – is that the majority of my clients usually experience initial shifts in energy, ability to focus, improved moods, and relief from cravings & digestive issues within the first 24-72 hours. I use this range – as it depends on the client and their body’s response.

Specific to the work I do with clients to directly impact their brain chemistry I’ve had clients respond to certain nutrients in as little as 30-60 seconds. Boosting and balancing brain chemistry is exciting and the effects can be profound and immediate. In fact for most clients, this – rocks – their – world.

Dependent upon how your body responds, I work with you to create a foundation that allows you to create a new framework around your health/body/weight/etc. that provides for long term/sustainable results.

Dropping fat (weight) happens for clients as well. Of course it does. And, this isn’t something that happens over night (ex: working with you to drop 30 pounds ‘in one week’ ain’t my bag baby). Rather, I work with you to put the pieces in place around shifting your body and brain chemistry, so that fat loss becomes a natural outcome.

Do you recommend supplements?

Usually, I do recommend supplements.

In my experience, when used appropriately, supplements can be a safe, efficient, and effective way to strategically support your body and its many processes.

One of my services offered, is a supplement review. This is an AWESOME way to evaluate what you’re taking (or think you ‘should’ be taking), and refine your supplement plan so that you actually experience the relief and support you desire (ex. relief from gas, heartburn, achy joints, sugar cravings, etc).

What you do almost sounds too good to be true. Are you for real?

I get it. Getting immediate results is NOT the norm. Truth is, when your brain gets ‘filled up’ with the things that it’s been asking for it DOES have an immediate effect.

It really can sound too good to be true. And to be honest – what I do can be kinda complicated. Lucky for you, I’ve done the heavy lifting over the past couple decades. So you can fast track through the research and experience relief now.

How long do people work with you?

Anywhere from one conversation to years. Sometimes, all a person needs is to be pointed in the right direction. Usually, I find people benefit from more direct support. Ultimately, it all depends on you, your body, and what you are out to accomplish.

I crave sugar, and have tried everything to manage this. In fact, I sometimes feel like I’m dealing with an addiction. Can you help me?

Absolutely! There are many recommendations out ‘there’ about managing sugar cravings (balance your blood sugar, eat more protein, add in naturally sweet foods, add in ‘sweet’ spices like cinnamon, go on a candida cleanse, and so on…). Most of these things are helpful. And useful. However, in my experience they don’t get to the source of what is going on with your brain.

The work I do with clients to directly impact their brain chemistry is critical (and most often a missing piece) to getting ‘underneath’ cravings (sugar, caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, etc.). This facet of what I do is exciting and ridiculously effective.

I REALLY want to lose weight. How would the work you do support me in dropping weight? And will the weight I drop stay off?

My first focus with you is to be sure you’re feeling damn good. And that as a result of restoring your body and brain chemistry, your body then is able to let excess fat go…

I deal with depression and/or anxiety. I want to avoid taking medications. Can you help me with this?

This is always something to work with your physician to address. That said, I use a combination of targeted nutrients, supplements, dietary recommendations, and specific coaching techniques that absolutely can and do impact healthy moods and create space for a healthy/normal stress response.

And if you’re currently on medications, I can work with you and your physician to support you nutritionally if and when you and your doctor determine it is time for you to decrease or stop your medication.

Do you take health insurance?

Currently, I don’t bill to insurance.

I have had clients submit this as a business expense dependent upon the nature of their business.

Since the work I am doing is all nutrition based using Flex Spending Dollars is an option for many clients.
